Devil’s Claw (Harpago) works by detoxifying the body and strengthens the immune system. It may cause nausea in certain people, depending on how toxic the body is. Allow 4 to 6 weeks of taking devil’s claw before assessing its effect. Boil ½ to 1 teaspoon of root in a cup of pure water for 15 minutes and drink 3 times a day. Salmon oil is highly beneficial as it provides Essential Fatty Acids (omega 3) to help the body produce natural anti-inflammatory chemicals. Purslane (Portulacaceae), also known as claytonia, miner’s lettuce or pigweed, is another source of omega 3. Add it to a salad. The full beneficial effect takes about 3 to 6 months, so persevere.
Hemp seed oil contains omega 3, 6 and 9 oils and is high in GLA. These properties are rarely found in balance in any one plant, making hemp seed oil an excellent choice for arthritics.
